Men's Glee Club
Starting its 104th season in September 2008, the Men's Glee Club plays an important role in extracurricular life at Caltech. There is no audition requirement, and anyone wishing to sing is encouraged to join. The Men's Glee Club rehearses twice a week for a total of three hours, with two hours devoted to the Men's repertoire and the other hour in combination with the Women's Glee Club. The club performs at yearly events such as Parent's Day, the December Holiday Concert, and the Spring Concert. In previous years, the group has toured western Canada, Utah, Colorado, and the East Coast. Performances of major works have included a fully-staged production of Stravinsky's opera-oratorio Oedipus Rex in 1997 and Dominick Argento's The Revelation of St. John the Divine presented at the invitation of the 34th National Seminar of the Intercollegiate Men's Choruses in March 1990.
Women's Glee Club
The Women's Glee Club welcomes all women in the Caltech/JPL community. It is the oldest organization for women on campus. The Glee Club rehearses three hours per week, preparing music in a wide variety of styles and languages. Featured events include the annual December Holiday Concert, Winter Concert, and Spring Concert, as well as participation in the Pacific Southwest Intercollegiate Choral Association Festival. Performances have included Britten's Ceremony of Carols, Purcell's Come Ye Sons of Art, and a concert of works by Daniel Pinkham conducted by the composer. Combined with the Men's Glee Club, the women have also sung Bach's Magnificat and Cantata #4, Handel's Messiah, Poulenc's Gloria, Faure's Requiem, Charpentier's Midnight Mass for Christmas, Bloch's Sacred Service, and Orff's Carmina Burana.
